Knowing God’s joy in us is a delightful key to unlocking Joy!

Like all children, I always wanted my Dad’s approval. I always wanted him to be pleased and proud of me. But there were times when he just didn’t have that capacity, and this affected my joy and confidence levels. It actually made it more difficult for me to be me. 

Fathers have a God-given role to bring identity, security and provision for their children, which stabilises the contentment and joy levels of the family. Earthly fathers don’t always make it to the school event we are in, but our Heavenly Father is always watching proudly. Father God is our provider and our security and it is He who gives us our identity. So when we know that He delights in us all the time, we feel His joy - and that makes everything right!

That’s what Nehemiah meant when he wrote: “The joy of the Lord is your strength.” (Nehemiah 8 verse 10 New International Version) The fact that God is joyful about us makes us strong and secure - which brings us joy!

“I’ve told you these things for a purpose: that My joy might be your joy, and your joy wholly mature.“

(John 15 verse 11 The Message)
